NewLink Wales is unique and innovative in providing specialist services to frontline agencies and organisations working to support substance misusers. NewLink Wales’ objectives are:
These objectives are achieved through the medium of training, volunteer recruitment and placement, programmes for service users, and ex-users, and an unparalleled community engagement service.
NewLink Wales provides the following services:
We have a programme of courses that we deliver throughout Wales as well as offering a wide range of bespoke courses that can be delivered throughout the UK. Many of our courses and qualifications are accredited through the University of Wales, City and Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and everything we do is mapped to the drug and alcohol national occupation standards, among other relevant standards.
All our trainers have been experienced practitioners themselves and have previously worked in the substance misuse sector, meaning that we can offer a wide range of courses to meet your individual needs.
We offer a variety of City and Guilds and ILM qualifications to suit everyone; from service users, practitioners, team leaders to senior and strategic managers.
All our assessors are fully qualified and experienced in the qualifications that they assess and provide individual support for all candidates to make sure that they are fully supported to complete their qualification to the highest quality standard.
All staff within NewLink Wales complete regular continuous professional development to ensure their knowledge, skills and competence are up to date and relevant to be able to support this fast paced and changing sector.
We were the first charity in Wales to achieve the award for Investing in Volunteers. We have the following volunteering programmes:
Volunteering can fill the void that is left by substance use and also help people to move on from treatment.

Community Engagement Services
Our Community Engagement Services work with and for the diverse communities of Cardiff and the Vale and we have several initiatives allowing the needs of the diverse communities to be identified and met by all service providers.
We offer training courses on Cultural Awareness as well as the only known toolkit of its kind within Wales ‘The Axis All Areas Toolkit’. The Toolkit provides services with the confidence and tools required to engage and support the diverse needs of services users within various health and support services.
Another service provided is the Young Persons Axis Community Engagement Project. This forms part of the larger ‘Switched On’ service and is a referral and support project acting as a bridge linking communities and treatment services for young people in Cardiff and the Vale. Staff and volunteers provide education and support individuals on issues related to substance misuse in a culturally appropriate, confidential and sensitive manner.
