The Crisis Recovery Unit (CRU) offers a service to people who are receiving support from the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams that operate in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The CRU provides assessment, therapeutic intervention and support, in a compassion focussed environment for individuals experiencing mental health crisis. It is designed to provide a flexible and responsive assessment and treatment service. The service supports clients of the CRHT Teams, providing a more intensive and consistent therapy that may not be available in a community based setting.

The service normally operates from 08.30 am to 16.30 pm seven days a week. Clients attendance would form part of their care package, up to 7 days a week depending on their or carer’s need. Where possible service users may continue to access community programmes while attending CRU.

Clients normally attend the unit between 10.00 – 15.30 although these hours can be amended according to need. Individual transport is provided to alleviate anxieties and promote attendance.

The CRU promotes a relaxed, caring environment for individuals in crisis or following a crisis. A range of therapies and activities are provided. Clients will collaborate with the development of individually designed intervention programmes that will have Recovery Based Outcomes. These programmes will provide a balance of therapeutic interventions, recreational activities and ‘time out’ in a non-pressured setting.
