Services:

Supporting the Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) are a number of inpatient facilities:

  • Crisis Assessment Ward – based at Cedar Ward, Hafan y Coed
  • Locality Wards – based at Hafan y Coed

There is also a five bedded Intensive Care Service within Hafan y Coed for clients needing higher levels of nursing and medical care over short periods of time.

Referrals:

To access inpatient services, a person must be referred through a Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT – see separate entry). The CRHTs are the gateway to the inpatient beds. The Crisis Team will assess to see what level of support is required in order to address your care needs.

If inpatient services are required then the CRHT will admit directly to Cedar Ward at Hafan Y Coed, University Hospital Llandough. This is the Crisis Assessment Ward where all admissions to hospital go.

If Admission to hospital is felt to be indicated, Cedar Ward offer an assessment of you needs for a maximum stay of up to 14 days, during which time a comprehensive assessment is undertaken to see further inpatient input is required then a transfer is arranged to one of our 3 locality (treatment) wards. During this period your mental state may well improve enough to be taken home with the Crisis Team support within the community, this is known as Early Discharge. The service user may also be discharged without having to be transferred to a locality ward but the outcome is determined by the comprehensive assessment.

All of this is determined on a client by client basis as each individuals needs are different.
