Platfform

For mental health and social change

We work with people who are experiencing challenges with their mental health, and with communities who want to create a greater sense of connection, ownership and wellbeing in the places that they live.

We work with people experiencing challenges with their mental health, and with communities who want to create a greater sense of connection, ownership and wellbeing in the places they live.

We’re driven by the belief that a strengths based approach is the foundation to sustainable wellbeing for everyone. We do not believe that people or communities are “broken” or in need of fixing.

Our work takes a trauma informed approach to understanding mental health and emotional distress, and we see the mental health, and wider health, social care and public sector systems as no longer fit for purpose. Based on illness and deficit models, they deny people the hope and agency to heal.

As part of a growing social movement, we’re working towards a fundamental shift in the way that public services are provided, so that they support people towards sustainable wellbeing and the life of their choice.

Having operated in Wales as Gofal for 30 years, as of 24th July 2019 we are Platfform.

Projects

Our projects focus on two broad areas; Crisis Prevention & Home and Life, Work & Wellbeing.

Crisis prevention and home

We work with people to prevent housing crises and homelessness in a range of settings across south Wales.

We know that homelessness services don’t always work for everyone and can be difficult to navigate. Our work includes working closely and liaising with local authorities’ homelessness departments, providing supported housing, working with people experiencing tenancy issues and working to secure accommodation when people leave hospital.

Housing crises are avoidable when people’s needs are heard, understood and acted on. Referral processes vary so please contact our local offices directly.

Life, work and wellbeing

We work with people to identify and harness their skills, connect with peers and to feel a valued part of their community.

Having connections, aspirations, and a sense of purpose is essential to wellbeing. Our projects work with people to achieve this, and provide support networks wherever needed.

The projects we offer are:

Skills and employment
Dementia support
Young people
Counselling and wellbeing
Community projects
Family support
Practical tips for parents and guardians
