Primary Mental Health Support Service

The PMHSS is a service for people aged 18 or over living with common mental health difficulties, such as depression and anxiety. We accept referrals from GPs and other mental health teams.

The service is for people who want to learn new ways of helping themselves.

The service offers assessments and a range of interventions to assist individuals in developing a personal plan to address mental health needs.

The service covers all areas of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The PMHSS is not designed for people requiring emergency or urgent support, or who require very specialist care.

The team is made up of professional staff from a variety of mental health backgrounds.

We aim to contact each person within 28 days of a referral to offer an assessment, usually on the phone; after the assessment each person may be offered information and advice, signposted to a wide number of local services, offered interventions from the team, or referred on to another NHS team.
